Fantasy

Farro by Arreana

She is the kidnapped prisoner of an assassinated priest. He is the assassin. They are thrown together, tortured slum girl and embittered Crown Prince, upon a perilous road to freedom.

Status: Complete

Teen Fantasy

Farro is an amazing piece of work, which I feel can boast to having great characterisation, action, detail and above par plot line. While the writing technique is a little repetitive from time to time, the description of the scenes truly makes up for it.

Our main character, Khensa, starts off as a victim of kidnap and torture, but later proves she was hardly a damsel in distress. Bomani saves her, not that he really meant to. Farro is a story of action and romance written in Arreana's own distinct voice.

Farro is now currently a published novel, which is fully up to read for free on FictionPress at this time. If you enjoy it, why not check out the published second novel "Sulfur". I would fully recommend to teen readers of fantasy.

Young Adult

Confused Musings of a Girl Who Gets Shrek by fairies and snapple

The roller coaster ride that is long hair, one night stands, bubblegum and so much more.

Nominated.

Fairies and snapple's story, as you can probably guess, is a humorous few chapter-ed story that's not really a story but short musings of a character named emery posted.
Despite the somewhat trivial topics, what normally would be bland is actually very funny and absolutely captivating. The first chapter see's our "Muser" talking about her curly hair and the next about a one-night stand. They're short and barely long enough for a scroll bar.
Funny, amusing and wonderfully light hearted, I can say that I really enjoyed this short story.

Young Adult

Callie by ice bitten

Oh Callie, didn’t you know loving another girl is a sin?

Nominated

Disturbing isn't the word for ice bitten's Callie. I can't say I was enthralled from the first lines but by the end I was completely hooked.

It's a beautiful piece of writing in a totally scary, psychopath way. The only down sides to this story is the short, sharp length of it and the fact that in the middle I became entirely confused about who was who and who was where and well it's not all that clear, however that doesn't make any less brilliant.

The impact at the end is amazing. So if you like short reads full of suspense and chilling to the bone, give this one a go.

Young Adult

Playing House Series by JuliAngelFace

I had my first kiss and lost my virginity all in the same night. I’m worse than Jillian, beyond that. Oh my god, I slept with my best friend’s brother, who's my sister’s boyfriend. Me, a camper, slept with my camp counselor. If anyone finds out, I'm dead

Nominated

Status: In-complete.

I fell in love with this story. Normally readers find main characters that take part in morally wrong acts hard to read, however there is a certain degree of forbidden love and the delightful cliche of best friend's older brother that convincingly pulls you in and let's you like the characters. Adrienne doesn't go out of her way to steal her sister's boyfriend, it's one of those things you cannot prevent, not to mention even from the beginning I can't say I liked her sister, Heather, much.
JuliAngelFace hooks you into the story with an excerpt, slightly cheating, but it works. It sets the stage, it's a character re-wind (so I'm sat here in jail, this is how I ended up here or, like here, I'm pregnant, they want to know who the dad is, how to tell them it's my sister's boyfriend? How did I even end up here?)
I don't want to spoil the story too much, but with fairly short chapters it does tend to fly by with relatively few over-dramatic events and dull, dragging portions.
The down side to this story is that it's in-complete, at 36 chapters long it hasn't received an update since 2009 and so, I'm afraid to say, it's likely not be updated again. However, I enjoyed it so much that I felt it still deserved acknowledgement.

Romance

Gossip, Set, and Match by Koosie.

In the game of love, Mackenzie Carwyn plays Fairy Gossipmonger, anonymous e-matchmaker of South Creek who has all the right gossip to grant happily ever afters. But when mysterious emails pop up from someone claiming to be her happily ever after, all the gossip in the world can't seem to help Mackie avoid matchmaking mayhem and possibly losing her heart in the process.

Nominated.

Status: In-complete

Koosie's Gossip, Set, and Match is a great cliche. It's a sweet and lovely story that I really had a great time reading. The bigger story is that of the main character, Mackie the match-maker who lets people know if their crush reciprocates their feelings and thus removes the true meaning of romance, or so Mackie's love interest Reese believes. This disagreement between them is a repeating argument that is never resolved until perhaps the end.

Mackenzie Carwyn is a selfless do-gooder, who's a little headstrong and reckless. She seldom thinks things through properly before action, which leads to questions she can't answer, like why she's locked in a supply cupboard with all the posters she'd help make destroyed behind her. Mackie never thinks of herself, and when she does, she does it in such a roundabout way that makes you want to scream and shout and tear her hair out.

The most enticing thing about GSM isn't it's charm, characters or light-hearted theme; not that all those things aren't great. The thing that really drew me in, was the mystery behind T F Catcher. For once I found a story that was un-predictable. You think you know who it is, you know who you hope it is and yet there's enough mystery woven into the story for you to doubt yourself.

Koosie has made four wonderful, well developed characters. Mackie, Reese, Drew and Mandy. Sure Drew and Mandy are a little cliche but you still end up loving and cheering for them almost as much as Mackie and Reese.

Do you love cliche, sweet, light hearted and easy reads? Why not give this a try? I want to thank the person who nominated this though I can't name names, I'm so glad I got the chance to read it!
