Supernatural

Mongrel by R. Lauden

Taking a step closer, his proximity inspired a pleasant tremble through my insides. I rooted myself in place, betraying every instinct not to flee. He could pluck every concept from my head-leave me empty and hollow. His knuckles grazed my collarbone, causing a shiver of eager anticipation. My body was screaming for him. I wanted to feel his mouth against mine.

Rated M

Mongrel is a werewolf love story told in the first person. Our main character, Aria, starts her story by being kidnapped by her brother and taken to her father's home. The events that follow after are extremely fast paced and, unfortunately for some, a little confusing.

The description in the narrative is excellent, unlike with some authors (even published authors) you don't drown in heavy sentences full of so much information that you have to read it three or four times just to understand what it was trying to say. There's a good balance.

R. Lauden is very good at portraying convincing emotions and feelings, especially in the later chapters. It takes a good writer to make the reader hate a character, and there's definitely a few I hate here!

Putting aside the occasional bad grammar and repetition of words it is quite a charming story and definitely one of the better werewolf stories I have read.
