When Ben planned on proposing to his girlfriend, the last thing he expected was that she would pack up and leave him. Rejected and wounded, he decides to go to his summer home to grieve; instead he finds Sonny, the girl that consumed every summer of his childhood. Ride With Me has headed off for a great start. The two main characters, Ben and Sonny, share the limelight pretty equally in this story. It's handled pretty well, with occasional PoV switches that can seem to come out of nowhere.

Our story starts with Ben feeling sorry for himself (who can blame him?) over his failed proposal and loss of his girlfriend. He leaves for the camp he visited regularly in the summer months when he was younger, a camp our main lass lives and works at. Sonny is mad at him for what happened between them and him not returning to the camp for over a decade since that one summer. But just what did happen?

I normally don't like flashback stories, but they work brilliantly here, giving a great insight into the friendship between Ben and Sonny, with just enough mystery to keep you wanting more. Until the true extent of what happened between them comes out, the need to know will keep pulling you painlessly through this story.

Personally, I fell in love with Sonny almost immediately. She's a lovely character and you can really feel for her.

There's not much wrong with Ride With Me so far. The only things I can think to point out are the occasional overly large paragraph here and there, and two dozen typos/grammatical errors.

Newly published, it only has four chapters up currently (all of which were published on the same day) so we can't be sure how often it will be updated, bear it in mind.

  1. Sorry if there's typos, my net's laggy and keeps missing key strokes.
